New routes to Greece and Spain from easyJet

EasyJet has announced it will start a new service from London Gatwick to the Greek city of Thessaloniki early next year.

The low-cost airline will offer flights three times a week, starting on January 30, with one-way tickets starting from £27.99.

David Osborne, easyJet UK general manager, said: "Thessaloniki is the second Greek destination easyJet will offer from the UK and we expect to carry over 41,000 passengers on the route this summer. The addition of this new service takes the total number of routes available from our base at Gatwick to 44."

Greece, China to Open Air Bridge

ATHENS, Greece — Greece and China are to be linked by direct commercial flights starting next week, Air China has announced.

China's state-run carrier will begin operating twice-weekly services between Athens and Beijing on Nov. 28 with a flight out of the Chinese capital. It marks the first direct air service between the cities.

Boeing 762 aircraft will be used, with a seating capacity of 213. Total flying time will be 13 hours and 50 minutes, Air China representatives said Wednesday.

Greece woos low-cost airlines

Greek Tourism Development Minister Aris Spiliotopoulos on Tuesday met in London with Ryanair's deputy CEO for talks on ways to lure the pioneering low-cost airline to the Greek market.

Speaking to reporters in the British capital on the sidelines of the World Travel Market trade fair, the Greek minister said negotiations were currently underway to attract low-cost airline carriers to Greece, while he underlined the importance of high-quality services in the tourism sector.

Minister sets out plans for tourism in Greece

Tourism arrivals, revenues to grow 5% in 2008

Tourist arrivals in Greece are expected to grow by 5.0 percent in 2008, the same as tourism foreign exchange revenues, Association of Tourism and Travel Office of Greece (HATTA) president Yiannis Evaggelou announced on Friday.

Evaggelou told reporters during the 23rd Philoxenia fair in Thessaloniki that improved foreign exchange revenues will reflect higher quality products and services in the tourism sector.
