Where to eat and where to stay on this Greek island
The water and the picturesque views of clustered white houses are the main attractions in Santorini. Spend a day at the Red Beach, located at the island's southwest tip. The sand is pebbly, but the setting is striking because the beach is nestled in some huge red and black volcanic rocks. Take a boat tour that makes stops for short hikes up a volcano and a swim in hot springs. A word of caution: Wear a dark-colored bathing suit because the red silt lining the hot springs can stain clothing. Nomikos Travel has two daily boat tours of those sites, starting at €20 (about $30) a person; boats depart from the port in Fira (30-22860-23660, nomikosvillas.gr).
